INTERNATIONAL ROUND TABLE ON “CONSTITUTIONAL JUSTICE AND RULE OF LAW”

On May 10, the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Tajikistan together with the Venice Commission of the Council of Europe (European Commission for Democracy through Law) held an international round table on “Constitutional Justice and the Rule of Law” at the Hyatt Regency Dushanbe.

Alizoda Zarif – assistant to the President of the Republic of Tajikistan for Legal Affairs, Dilshod Rahmon – chairman of the Committee for ensuring constitutional bases, Human rights and freedoms and legitimacy of the Majlisi Milli Majlisi Oli of the Republic of Tajikistan, representatives of the Supreme Court, Supreme Economic Court, Attorney General’s office, Ministry of foreign affairs, Ministry of justice, National legislative center, Commissioner for Human Rights took part and spoke at this event of international level.

Foreign guests – President of the Venice Commission of the Council of Europe Gianni Buquicchio (via online platform), experts and representatives of the Venice Commission Vladimir Vardanyan, Sergei Kuznekov, Georgy Papuashvili, Victoria Meshaykina, Vice President Amelie Lepinar, Olga Freishteter, Deputy Chairman of the Constitutional Court of Uzbekistan Gafurov A.B., Member of the Constitutional Council of the Republic of Kazakhstan Unzila Sh.Sh., Judge of the Constitutional Court of the Kyrgyz Republic Bobukeeva M.R., Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Republic of Germany to Tajikistan Dr. Andreas Protmann, Ambassador of the Council of Europe in Tajikistan Marilyn Josephson, representatives of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and legal scholars of the country also took part and had a speech.

The event was held at a good level of preparation, and included topics related to the rule of law as a constitutional principle, the impact of constitutional justice in strengthening the rule of law, the role of constitutional courts in the formation of the rule of law and the provision of human rights, the exclusive role of the constitutional courts as a guarantor of the rule of law in transitional states, and other issues related to the rule of law and the strengthening of constitutional justice were discussed and analyzed in depth, taking into account the experience of different countries.

The Chairman and judges of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Tajikistan made presentations at the conference on the experience of the Constitutional Court of the country in ensuring the rule of law, strengthening constitutional justice and protection of human and civil rights and freedoms.

At the same time, in the framework of the event, the Chairman of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Tajikistan met with representatives of the constitutional control bodies of these countries and the Venice Commission of the Council of Europe to discuss issues related to strengthening bilateral cooperation.
